This stylish SUV looks compact from outside, but it is as spacious as any other SUV in its class and provides comfortable accommodation for five passengers. It has a spacious boot compartment and a massive fuel tank that can store upto 70 litres of fuel within.
Ed' take: The acceleration of the diesel and petrol engine of the Evoque is good and it doesn’t feel any smaller. The performance has gone notches above as it now has better performance thank to better gearing with the new nine-speed ZF transmission.
The manufacturer has mated this power plant to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. This propels the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 Kmph mark in a mere 8.5 seconds. At the same time, it can go up to a top speed of 195 Kmph.
Ed's take: Considering mind over matter, then the 2.2-litre diesel engine is the most sensible buy as the petrol is expensive and is only available in 3-door.
Under the hood of this Range Rover Evoque, lies a 2.2-litre SD4 oil-burner, which is the same mill that is currently performing in the outgoing model. It has a total of 4-cylinders that have a total of 16 valves in them. It has a displacement capacity of 2179cc. Based on a dual overhead camshaft valve configuration, this mill comes integrated with a turbocharger for a much better power output. It can churn out a maximum of 187.7bhp at 5200rpm in combination with a commanding torque output of 420Nm at 2000rpm. This drive train been mated to an advanced nine speed automatic transmission gearbox that distributes the engine power to all its four wheels. This sophisticated gearbox not just improves the performance, but it also reduces the fuel consumption by 20%.
Ed''s take: The diesel engine of the Evoque is frugal despite having good performance. And now it has improved further as it is offered with a nine-speed ZF transmission.
Currently, this new generation Evoque draws power from the same SD4 oil-burner sourced from Ford Motors. This mill has the common rail direct fuel injection technology helping it to deliver a mileage of approximately 12.7 Kmpl, under standard driving conditions.
Ed's take: The Evoque gets the smallest engine from the JLR stable, which is the new 2.0-litre petrol. But the power rating of these engines is good.
The 2.2-litre diesel engine is a 4-cylindered mill built with technology based on a DOHC valve configuration. It is also turbocharged for enhanced power output. This drive-train is capable of unleashing a peak power of 187.7bhp along with a torque of 420Nm.
Ed's take: Being a luxury vehicle, the Evoque gets touchscreen music system, cruise control, ESP, premium leather.
The manufacturer is currently offering all the trims with an advanced touchscreen infotainment system having an 8-inch high resolution display. It is integrated with a Land Rover Sound System and has a total of 8 speakers with 'InControl Touch'. Also include is a 5-inch TFT color driver information center that displays crucial information and keeps the driver informed. Besides this, there are connectivity features like USB, AUX-In and Bluetooth. The HSE trim also has an Autostrasse (Asia Nav) navigation system along with a 380W Meridian sound system as standard feature. In addition to these, we can also find a Head-up display that adds to the convenience of driver.
Ed's take: The ride and handling characteristics of the Evoque are good, as the ride is plush like any Range Rover and the handling is just like a sedan
This SUV has a reliable braking and suspension mechanism like we have seen in other Land Rover models. All its wheels are fitted with disc brakes featuring high performance calipers. Aiding this mechanism are the anti-lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution and emergency brake assist system that offers driver with superior control over the SUV. It also features cornering brake control, dynamic and roll stability control, electric parking brake and trailer stability assist function. On the other hand, the front and rear axles are assembled with an adaptive dynamic system that helps in reducing the impact of jerks and provide an exceptional driving experience. It is also integrated a highly responsive power steering system that makes it quite simpler to handle this SUV.
Ed's take: The safety features list on the Evoque is fairly long, just like most of the luxury vehicles in this segment. It has the Active Driveline as optional package that also improves the handling.
There is no doubt that the JLR has put-on its hard work to ensure highest level of protection to the occupants. It has built this SUV with a rigid body structure integrating it with impact beams and crumple zones. This enhances safety of the occupants in case of any crash and minimizes the risk of injury. As for the features, much of them have been retained from the outgoing model. It has an advanced engine immobilizer with security alarm system that safeguards the vehicle from theft and any unauthorized entry. The company has also given innovative aspects like terrain response system along with torque vectoring by braking, which will reduce the efforts of the driver, while improving the performance. It also has hill descent control, hill start assist and electronic traction control system. The braking mechanism is further augmented by ABS along with emergency brake assist function and electric parking brake. This SUV has 3-point ELR seat belts for all passengers along with driver seat belt reminder notification on instrument panel. Apart from the Pure variant, other trims also gets a keyless entry for added convenience. In addition to these, it also has eight airbags (side curtain, dual front and knee airbag for driver), front and rear parking aid, LED high mounted stop lamp, central locking system, powerful disc brakes, front fog lights, high intensity xenon lamps and several other aspects.
All the trims in this Evoque series are presented with a set of 18 inch alloy wheels as standard fitment. These rims are wrapped with terrain capable tubeless radial tyres for better traction on roads.
