Land Rover Ranage Rover Evoque is perhaps the best-selling SUV model built by the British Luxury car brand JLR. Ever since it arrived in India, its hasn't lost the steam and is continuing its success run pertaining to its sales. Now, this contemporary SUV has received a facelift with several new cosmetics and features. With regards to the technical specifications, its power source is the same SD4 diesel engine, whose displacement capacity 2179cc. Its transmission duties are taken care by a 9-speed automatic gearbox that supports 4WD drive mechanism. As for the variant line-up, this latest version now comes in four trims like Pure, SE, HSE and HSE Dynamic. Many expected this SUV series to come with the company's latest TD4 oil-burner, which is currently available in global markets. However, the manufacturer has opted to offer this new drive-train from 2016. This new generation product gets a handful of changes to its exteriors with an updated radiator grille, bigger air vents, redesigned headlamps and taillights. Also, we can see an updated bonnet with scoops, which were present only in its 3-door versions earlier. The interior section remains largely unchanged, expect for some changes with regards to the equipments. Also, we can see that the seats are completely new, which only helps to improve driving comfort. All the trims in the series are now being given with an 8-inch InControl touchscreen infotainment system as standard system. While the top end version also gets an InControl Plus technology as additional feature.
Moving on to the features front, it gets several new facilities like a heads-up display, surround camera system, panoramic sunroof, rear seat entertainment package and mood lighting. Also, it gets a hand-free tail-gate opening facility that helps owners to open the back door by waving the foot under the rear bumper. Other notable feature are the Terrain Response System, which is given as a standard feature across all its trims. Besides these, all the other features have been retained from its previous version. In terms of safety, it gets crucial protective aspects like airbags for enhanced safety, hill descent control, engine immobilizer, Range Rover Smart Key Controls and hazard warning lights under heavy braking. This vehicle will be rivaling with the likes of Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60 in the Indian SUV market. Currently, it is available with a standard warranty of three years or 100000 Kilometers, whichever comes first.
The 2016 version of Range Rover Evoque carries subtle changes on its exteriors and commands a more opulent persona. Its retains the same body structure from its predecessor and yet, it looks much more advanced and modern. Its front facade being modified with a new radiator grille rendering it a sporty appeal. The headlight cluster too gets a new design that looks much more crisp and clear. The front bumper got bigger in size with pronounced air inlets. Furthermore, they are fitted with fog light strips that amplifies this facet. The lower section of this bumper is fitted with a black colored stripe along with a nudge guard providing additional protection on rugged roads. One of the notable changes it gets is that the bonnet is now designed with scoops, which further enhances its dynamic appeal. Ed's take: The interiors of the Range Rover Evoque are a great blend of technology and fashion. The Evoque is more of a fashion icon vehicle and the exterior design says so. Designers have done a terrific job for the interior as well.
As for its interiors, the seats have been completely redesigned for a better traveling comfort. They are covered with luxurious leather upholstery that renders a magnificent appeal to the insides. Also some changes have been done to the dashboard for placing an advanced 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system. Besides this, no change or modification has been done to the cabin. Its plush cabin is quite spacious and can accommodate five people with ease. The cockpit has perhaps the best design that we can see in current generation SUVs. The steering wheel is another eye-catching factor, thanks to its four-spoke design and illuminated multi-functional switches. The car maker has done up its interiors with an ebony black color scheme that only renders an eye-soothing effect to the cabin. Furthermore, it is complemented by ambient lighting system. It has driver oriented cockpit with commanding driving position and ergonomically positioned control switches, which are easy to reach. The company has given it a number of utilities rear seat center armrest with two cup holders, load space cover, auto dimming interior rear view mirror, carpet mats with edging, push button start, memory function for driver's seat and a few other aspects that adds to its elegance.
This latest version of Evoque is now available in four different variants such as Pure, SE, HSE and HSE Dynamic. To start with, its entry level 'Pure' trim comes with features like oxford leather cover for steering wheel, carpet mats with edging, illumination for foot-well, push-button engine start and an adjustable steering column. Its front seats can be manually adjusted in six different ways, which is an added feature. Ed' take: The acceleration of the diesel and petrol engine of the Evoque is good and it doesn’t feel any smaller. The performance has gone notches above as it now has better performance thank to better gearing with the new nine-speed ZF transmission.
The manufacturer has mated this power plant to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. This propels the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 Kmph mark in a mere 8.5 seconds. At the same time, it can go up to a top speed of 195 Kmph.
Engine and Performance
Ed's take: Considering mind over matter, then the 2.2-litre diesel engine is the most sensible buy as the petrol is expensive and is only available in 3-door.
Under the hood of this Range Rover Evoque, lies a 2.2-litre SD4 oil-burner, which is the same mill that is currently performing in the outgoing model. It has a total of 4-cylinders that have a total of 16 valves in them. It has a displacement capacity of 2179cc. Based on a dual overhead camshaft valve configuration, this mill comes integrated with a turbocharger for a much better power output. It can churn out a maximum of 187.7bhp at 5200rpm in combination with a commanding torque output of 420Nm at 2000rpm. This drive train been mated to an advanced nine speed automatic transmission gearbox that distributes the engine power to all its four wheels. This sophisticated gearbox not just improves the performance, but it also reduces the fuel consumption by 20%.
Ed''s take: The diesel engine of the Evoque is frugal despite having good performance. And now it has improved further as it is offered with a nine-speed ZF transmission.
Currently, this new generation Evoque draws power from the same SD4 oil-burner sourced from Ford Motors. This mill has the common rail direct fuel injection technology helping it to deliver a mileage of approximately 12.7 Kmpl, under standard driving conditions.

Ed's take: The ride and handling characteristics of the Evoque are good, as the ride is plush like any Range Rover and the handling is just like a sedan
