The Kia Carens Clavis is the newest MPV from the Korean carmaker in India that is on sale alongside the Kia Carens. Considering the premium features it has on offer, it locks horns with the popular Toyota Innova Crysta that comes at a more premium price than the Carens Clavis. So, should you go for the more expensive Innova Crysta or get the new Carens Clavis? Let us find out.

The Kia Carens Clavis is a lot less expensive than the Toyota Innova Crysta. Prices of the base-spec variants of both MPVs differ by about Rs 8.50 lakh, while the fully-loaded trims have a price difference of more than Rs 5 lakh.

Length of the Innova Crysta is more than the Clavis, but the other dimensions have a marginal difference, with the Toyota being the bigger rival. That said, both the Innova Crysta and Carens Clavis can seat people comfortably in all 3 rows, while leaving some space to carry luggage for small road trips. With the last row folded, both MPVs provide enough space for carrying lot of luggage.

The Toyota Innova Crysta features a single diesel engine that produces 34 PS and 93 Nm more than the smaller-capacity 1.5-litre diesel engine of the Kia Carens Clavis. However, the Toyota MPV gets only a manual option, while the Kia offering gets an automatic transmission too.
In addition to the diesel engine, the Kia Carens Clavis gets a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that will be suited for a more enthusiastic drive experience, and a naturally aspirated petrol engine that focusses more on a refined drive. On the other hand, Toyota does not offer any petrol option with the Innova Crysta.

Both MPVs come with common features including LED headlights, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and rear wiper and washer. Both MPVs also provide retractable seat back tables with cup holders and offer an option for choosing captain seats in the middle row.
Over the Carens Clavis, the Innova Crysta gets halogen fog lamps, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and 1 more airbag in the top-spec variant.
The Kia Carens Clavis, however, gets a lot more than the Toyota Innova Crysta including LED tail lights, roof rails, bigger 12.3-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger and an 8-speaker Bose sound system. It also gets 6 airbags from its base variant, 360-degree camera and ADAS, all of which are not offered with the Innova Crysta.
Do note that the bigger 12.3-inch infotainment system of the Clavis does not support wireless Android auto or Apple CarPlay, a feature that is supported by the smaller 8-inch screen that is offered in the lower variants of the MPV.
Verdict
The Kia Carens Clavis is the carmaker’s newest MPV and it gets a lot of modern-day features including dual digital displays, a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera and ADAS, all of which is not offered with the Toyota rival. It also gets more engine and transmission options that will cater to varied driving needs. So, if you want a modern MPV with all the bells and whistles and also do not want to shell out on a lot of money, you should choose the Kia Carens Clavis.
In comparison, the Toyota Innova Crysta has been on sale for a long time and it gets a reliable diesel engine that is more powerful than the Clavis’ unit. It is also a bigger MPV that can seat up to 8 passengers. So, if you want a slightly bigger MPV that offers a more powerful diesel engine and has the perfect basic fundamentals, you can consider the Toyota Innova Crysta.
