It’s Happening! Maruti Will Sell Its Own Version Of New Gen Toyota Innova

The Innova Hycross will debut in November with a strong-hybrid petrol engine

Update (25/11/2022): Toyota has unveiled the Innova Hycross in India. Bookings for the MPV are now underway, while its prices are likely to be revealed at the 2023 Auto Expo.

• To sport a 190PS+, 2-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine and no diesel option.

• The new Maruti MPV will share its underpinnings and specifications with the Hycross.

• It will be a premium alternative to the Kia Carens, but a more affordable option to the Carnival.

Toyota is all set to introduce the new Innova, christened as the ‘Innova Hycross’, in India coming November. As a part of Toyota and Suzuki’s global partnership deal, the new Innova will be shared with Maruti and the carmaker will sell it as a cross-badged product in the country.

The basics first. The new MPV will be the first model with the Innova moniker to sit on a monocoque platform. It is a front-wheel drive MPV, not rear-wheel drive, and will sport a 190PS+, 2-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine, with its working similar to that of the Hyryder. There won’t be any diesel powertrain on offer with the Hycross.

The ‘Innova Hycross will be produced locally and has already been spied on multiple times. It will carry several feature upgrades over the Crysta, including a 360-degree camera setup, a larger touchscreen unit, ventilated seats, wireless phone charging and possibly a sunroof.

Maruti’s version of the Innova Hycross will carry the same underpinnings and specifications, but there’s no word on how different it would look. We’re expecting something along the lines of the Hyryder and Grand Vitara with regard to visual differences.

The Innova Hycross is expected to be priced from around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). In the case of Maruti, its rebadged product will be its flagship model in India, being a premium alternative to the Kia Carens, but an affordable option to the Carnival.
