    Hyundai Sixth-Gen Elantra

Hyundai has brought the sixth-gen Elantra to the 2016 Beijing Motor Show. Known as the Avante in South Korea (Hyundai’s home country), the car is expected to launch in India in mid-2016.

The new Elantra flaunts a lot of upgrades. The most prominent change is in the front where the carmaker has introduced a hexagonal grille instead of the ‘2-tier’ grille in the current version. Feature-wise too, the sixth-gen Elantra is updated and comes equipped with attributes like Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking and High Beam Assist.

The Chinese variants of the vehicle are offered with three engine options – a 1.6-litre MPI petrol unit, a 1.6-litre GDI petrol mill and a 1.4-litre T-GDI petrol engine. However, its avatars in other international markets are powered by a 2.0-litre MPI petrol and a 1.6-litre VGT CRDi diesel mill. In India, we are expecting the 1.4-litre T-GDI petrol and the 1.6-litre VGT CRDi diesel mill to find space in the Elantra. While the diesel plant is likely to mate with the EcoShift seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the petrol version is expected to come with a six-speed manual or automatic.

The Elantra is 4,610mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,450mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,700mm. The car starts at 99,800 yuan in China, which equals INR 10,22,193. But when launched in India, do expect higher prices, thanks to the excise and custom duties. The car will compete with the likes of the Renault Fluence and the Toyota Corolla in the domestic market.

We will be getting our hands on the Elantra to conduct a road test soon. While all of us wait for the launch, do tell us what you think about the car in the comments section below.
