Hits and Misses in the Indian Auto Market in 2010

2010, a changing phase for the Indian auto market, this special year will remembered for the growth the Indian auto market had. The Indian economy is growing almost at 9 per cent, the auto sector took a leap of 30 per cent by breaking various sales record from July to October.

The Indian auto market is the second fastest growing auto market which has lured the auto biggies from the global sector such as Spyker Cars, Aston Martin, Ferrari and more. The Indian auto sector is so promising that it saw the introducing of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport in India with a price tag of Rs 16 crore, making it the most expensive car in the Indian auto sector. It was the same year which saw the biggest two wheeler makers parting ways Hero Honda. And Tata Nano soring the eyes of the Indian buyers with continuous mishaps. The 2010, has some of the biggest hits and misses.

2010, witnessed various launches such as Maruti Eeco, Ford Figo, Nissan Micra, Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Yeti, Tata Aria and many others. Ford and Renault gained its much awaited market share in the Indian auto sector with its winning vehicles and Maruti recorded a sale of more than one lakh unit for two consecutive months.

Renault planning to roll out as many as five new car models from its stable by 2013 and Ford has declared to come up with eight new car models by 2015 in the growing domestic auto market. Well, various auto player are looking forward to invest in the Indian auto market. However, Mahindra India, ready to take over the SUV makers from South Korea, Ssangyong auto motors for Rs 2,105.

2010 also saw the biggest split between Hero and Honda the joint venture of 26 years, globally the biggest two wheeler maker. The Hero Group, BM Mumjal, brought the 26 per cent stake from the Honda, under a new pact which will let Hero to use the Honda's technology for some more time and the royalty will be the same.

Renault-Mahindra also have cut down its ties with each other, as the partnership was to manufacture Mahindra Logan in April, 2010, as the Indian markers purchased the 49 per cent shares from the French auto giants in Mahindra Renault Pvt Ltd.

Maruti 800, was called off from 13 major cities across India due to strict emission norms (Bharat Stage IV) from April 2010. Ambassador, is also facing hardships as in May 2010, it reached to Board for industrial and Financial Reconstruction because of the continuous losses.

Tata Nano, which is India's cheapest and smallest car observed a deep slush in its sales since its launch two years ago. Various factors are responsible for it but primarily the new Tata Nano catching fire and also the price hike of the wonder car. Now, Tata motors are using various measures to again upsurge the sale of its mini wonder such as putting up additional safety features, loans on its small car and much more. The manufacturing defects was also detected in the Maruti A Star and Honda City which forced the auto makers to recall its respective vehicles.
