The Skoda Laura sedan is offered in both petrol and diesel trims in India. But, it is the diesel variant of the car that gains the attention. The Skoda Laura diesel is offered in four variants with the base Ambition variant powered by a 2.0 L TDI engine coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox selling at Rs 14.23 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 18.60 lakh by the time the automatic gearbox makes its way into the sedan. Not that Skoda Laura has been a dud seller, but probably the high price of the diesel car turned out to be the sore point making even the diesel car inventory pile up at the Skoda sales outlets.

Apart from the automatic gearbox in the high-end Skoda Laura Elegance AT and L&K AT variants, the same 2.0 L TDI engine has been tweaked for some better performance to offer some compensation for the enormous Skoda Laura price. These 2.0 L TDI in the two variants offer an additional 30 Bhp power to the original 110 Bhp power to take it to 140 Bhp peak power and an excellent 320 Nm of top torque.
