    Chevrolet Beat excited, GM to double its sales in 2010

    General Motors India, is expecting to double its sales in the country by this year, with launching and promoting its new cars in India. Company is also planning to double its share in this market in longer term with initiating the production of its commercial vehicles, to which it is planning to produce with its Chinese joint-venture partner, SAIC.

    General Motors India, is expecting to double its sales in the country by this year, with launching and promoting its new cars like Chevrolet Beat . Company is also planning to double its share in this market in longer term with initiating the production of its commercial vehicles, to which it is planning to produce with its Chinese joint-venture partner, SAIC.

    The company is doing incredibly well with passenger cars and it is going to double its volume this year, said, Tim Lee, President of GM's international operations told Reuters on the sidelines of the Beijing auto show. According to company, it is expecting to double its sales in India by year 2010 to 1,30,000 units, as against nearly 70,000 units sold in 2009.

    GM India is receiving a very good response from Indian buyers on its recently launched Chevrolet Beat, as it has sold more then 15,000 units of this model since its launch in January. GM's international operations, including sales in China, India, Russia, the Middle East and Africa will contribute significantly to the company in the first quarter, Said Mr Lee. The last 18 months in the US were very, very difficult for GM. But as it came through bankruptcy in July, the momentum has really swung its way, added Lee.

    Company currently sells more than half a dozen cars in India, including small hatch-backs Chevrolet Beat and Spark and Aveo U-VA, entry level sedans Chevrolet Aveo and Optra Magnum, luxury sedan Chevrolet Cruze, and SUV's Chevrolet Tavera and Captiva (luxury SUV). GM is also in the process of launching an electric version of Chevrolet Spark in coming months.
