BMW launches 3rd gen X5 at Rs 70 lakh 90 thousand

BMW India launched the all-new X5 at a price tag of INR 70.90 lakh (Ex-showroom, pan-India). The SUV comes in a single variant - xDrive 30d, powered by a 3.0 liter V6 twin turbo diesel motor mated to a 8 speed automatic transmission. BMW's die-hard fan, Sachin Tendulkar added grace to the SUV's launch ceremony.

BMW X5

The vehicle sports host of new features, interior trims, colors and a completely new design. The all new 3rd gen X5 will be produced at BMW's plant in India through CKD (Completely Knocked Down) units. The deliveries of the new X5 are likely to start by this week. On the design front, the all-new X5 offers sharper styling, similar to the new BMW 3 series.

At the front, the vehicles offers BMW's LED lighting system with day-time-running LED rings flanked around the new 'Kidney' grille ( first seen on the new 3 series). The vehicle features adaptive lighting system with anti-dazzle high beam. The redesigned front bumper offers brushed metal inserts around the air diffusers and LED fog lamps with cornering lights. 

BMW X5

The new X5 also features 'air curtains' for improved aerodynamics. At the rear, the vehicle sports redesigned LED tail lamps while it still offers split boot lid. Apart from this, the vehicle offers redesigned two-tone bumper and a new twin trapezoidal exhaust mufflers. The car is slightly larger than the predecessor with stats - length 4,886 mm, height 1,762 mm and a wheelbase of 2,933 mm.

The new X5 features an entirely new dashboard layout wrapped in black and beige leather with darker wood inserts. The vehicle features BMW 'X typical' seating for best possible driving position and road visibility. Seats offer 40:20:40 split folding. On creature comfort front, the new X5 offers 'free standing' infotainment system, new touch iDrive controller and acoustics are powered by Harmon Kardon surround sound system for clear and crisp audio. The vehicle also sports an all-around camera assistance for parking ease.

The BMW X5 xDrive 30D is powered by an in-line six-cylinder 3.0 liter V6 twin turbo charged diesel motor. The engine musters maximum power of 258bhp at 4000rpm and a peak torque of 560Nm in between the range of 1,500-3,000rpm.

The engine is coupled to a 8 speed Steptronic automatic transmission and power drills down to all the four wheels. The powertrain propels the X5 from 0-100kmph in 6.9 seconds with a top whack of 230kmph. The vehicle delivers a certified fuel economy of 15.35kmpl. The SUV rides on 18 inch radial.
