Volkswagen is all set to introduce one of its iconic cars, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, tomorrow. It will be the second GTI car to be launched in India after the erstwhile Polo GTI. The German hot hatch packs in stellar performance, looks to match its show and quite a well-loaded features package. Pre-launch bookings for the Golf GTI are closed at the moment as the first batch of the fully imported hatchback has already been spoken for.

The Golf GTI is a car that’s built for plastering a smile on your face. So the obvious thing to talk about first is its thumping heart - the 2-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that drives the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Headline numbers are 265 PS of power and 370 Nm, helping the hot hatch sprint from nought to 100 kmph in a claimed 5.9 seconds. Keep the throttle pinned and the Golf GTI will hit a top speed of a speedo indicated 267kmph.

With so much power underneath your right foot, it needs to have tidy road manners. In that regard, Volkswagen has bolted it on with a stiffer suspension setup and a quicker steering rack for better agility. There’s an electronic differential to ensure that the wheel with maximum traction gets more power for better exit during cornering. And to slow you down from some serious speeds, it gets upgraded brakes over the standard car.

Like any other Volkswagen, the Golf GTI boasts a clean design with enough design elements to make it look aggressive. The fascia gets twin-pod LED headlights and a full-width LED DRL, and an illuminated logo that looks wow, especially at night. Keen-eyed viewers will also notice the sleek red detailing on the grille and a GTI badge. Its bumper is aggressive with a honeycomb grille for the airdam and 5-piece LED fog lamps that form an X-motif.

In profile, the 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and a lowered ride height give the Golf GTI a hunkered-down stance. There is also a GTI badge on the front door to denote that you’re driving the sporty variant of the hatch. At the rear, it gets wrap-around LED tail lights and a bold GTI badge on the tailgate. A sporty rear bumper with dual exhaust tips rounds off the overall design.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI gets an all-black dashboard with two screens, giving it a minimalist look. Splashes of ambient lighting across the cabin give it a dapper look. The front seats are of the sports variety with thick side bolsters to keep you in place while cornering hard. The seats also get the iconic Tartan upholstery seen in GTI cars.
