The latest-gen Ertiga MPV with the Suzuki Sport treatment looks fantastic, but sadly will not be offered in India

The 2018 Ertiga MPV has been given the Suzuki Sport treatment and is now on sale in Indonesia. These are the first detailed images of the final production-spec model, seen here in black. Let’s take a closer look at what makes the Ertiga Sport so desirable:

The Suzuki Sport Ertiga gets a redesigned front bumper with the sportier front splitter with chrome inserts as well. It also gets a different blacked out mesh for the front grille and air dam. The plastic cladding around the fog lamp housing seen on the India-spec Ertiga is replaced by LED DRLs.

The Suzuki Sport body kit treatment continues around the rear as well with a sportier rear bumper design that incorporates extended skirting below the reflective strips and a rear diffuser at the centre too.

It also gets a new, bigger roof spoiler that extends over the high-mounted LED brake lamp above the rear windscreen. It gets the same taillights as the regular Ertiga, but with LED light guides even in the section that extends on the pillar. There’s a chrome bar connecting tail lamps across the boot lid.

The Ertiga name badge is now on the right side of the boot lid while the left side gets the Suzuki Sport badging.

The body kit includes new side skirts too which also have the Suzuki Sport badging at one end.

It also gets a new design for the dual-finish 15-inch alloys that are not available in India on the regular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, not even as an accessory.

The Suzuki Sport Ertiga gets an all black interior with faux wood inserts on the dashboard and the lower half of the flat-bottom steering wheel as well. These wood inserts are not the same as those on the regular Ertiga. Note that the roof-lining is still in the beige colour. How we wish that was black too!

The steering mounted controls are the same. The India-spec Ertiga gets a beige steering wheel and, therefore, the blank area on the right spoke sticks out like a sore thumb. But that’s definitely not the case with the Suzuki Sport Ertiga.

There is a different layout for the instrument cluster too and the Ertiga Sport does not seem to be powered by Suzuki’s hybrid tech either. The rev counter and speedometer dials are in the same position but have an orange hue outline instead of blue. The MID between the dials appears shorter in length, but with bigger displays for various alerts such as low fuel, parking brake on, doors open and others.

It also features push-button stop/start which is positioned to the right of the steering wheel. Next to that are the controls for the parking sensors, the traction control and the LED DRLs too.

The Suzuki Sport Ertiga does not get any mechanical changes compared to the regular Ertiga MPV. This particular one has the 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a torque convertor automatic. There is no manual up or down shift option.

The Ertiga Sport also gets a floating touchscreen unit like the regular Ertiga, but uses a different unit as compared to the 7-inch SmartConnect infotainment offered in India. The infotainment screen also works as a display for the rearview camera which is only offered on the Suzuki Sport version in Indonesia.

It also has the auto climate control unit in all black with red bezels around the fan speed and temperature controls.

The Suzuki Sport Ertiga comes equipped with adjustable front headrests.

Despite the sporty cosmetic add-ons, it is still a family-friendly MPV and has the same roof-mounted AC vents for the rear passengers.

The Suzuki Sport cosmetic treatment makes the Ertiga MPV more appealing to a wider demographic, turning the family car into something that appeals to younger buyers too. However, it is unlikely that Maruti will offer this variant in India. But there is good news too as Maruti is planning to introduce an Ertiga-based six-seater MPV (standard Ertiga is a 7-seater) which could be aesthetically sportier and more premium to.
