Renault to include diesel option in its entire line-up
Among the four fuel options available in India, the diesel cars rule the roost. Renault India seems to be one keen observer to note this point down. Len Curant, Renault India Vice-president said that going forward they will make sure to include a diesel option in its future models. Not that Renault India hasn’t offered a diesel powered car before, but they want to keep the diesel option open in the industry where the diesel driven cars make up for around one-third of the passenger car sales.

The two cars offered by Renault India this year, the Renault Fluence and Renault Koleos continue to meet the domestic car industry demands with powerful diesel powertrains in each case. Now, it goes without saying that the three new cars from the Renault lined-up for the 2012, will have a diesel option too. Renault Pulse hatchback was unveiled recently , the car will be offcically launched in India next month. Being a rebadged version of the Nissan Micra hatchback, the Pulse comes with enough ammo, the same Micra petrol and diesel engines will power the car. The compact SUV Renault Duster slated for a mid-2012 launch is expected to be offered in an all-diesel variant. Apparently, there is another sedan from the auto major scheduled for a launch towards the end of 2012. This means, Renault India will make sure to include a diesel engine in the sedan as well.

The demand of the diesel cars have steeply increased especially in the recent times. The difference of Rs 30 between the petrol and diesel fuel prices is one of the causes to blame for. Why, there is a huge chunk of difference in the demands when observed from last year sales figures itself. While the diesel cars sold about 27% of the overall passenger car sales last year, this year diesel cars are likely to contribute to 33% of total car sales. Even the car manufacturers like Honda Motors who stood by their petrol car line-up until now, have decided to introduce a diesel powertrain to their existing fleet of cars.
