Hyundai Issues Recall For 7,657 Eon Models In India

Hyundai has issued a voluntary recall for its entry level hatchback, the Eon. The recall is applicable only on 7,657 units of the Eon built in January 2015. The suspected cars will be taken in for inspection of the clutch cable which may be causing damage to the battery cable. This inspection and a possible replacement of the battery cable will be free of cost for the owner.

The statement from Hyundai reads, "Hyundai Motor India will voluntarily recall 7657 number of Eon cars in India manufactured between 1st January 2015 – 31st January 2015. Eon customers of respective period will be notified in a phased manner for inspection of the clutch cable fouling with battery cable and replace the battery cable if found damaged."

The Hyundai Eon has been in the Indian market for a long time now. Competing with the Alto in India, the Eon has to fight hard for its money. Initially available with just an 814cc petrol engine developing 56PS of power, Hyundai in May 2014 launched the 1.0-litre Kappa variants of the Eon as well, which has a power output of 69PS. These engines come mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

We highly recommend that if your Hyundai Eon falls within the manufacturing period of the recall, call you nearest service station and have your car inspected. A damage to the battery cable could lead to your car being stranded on the road, or other complications.
