Chevrolet Cruze has pre-launch bookings of 1,100 units

This year is the year of pre-launch bookings and new offerings. Chevrolet Cruze, General Motors new car has already seen over 1,100 units being booked even before it has been launched. Chevrolet Beat is another launch from the company. GM India has recently said that it will launch the Chevrolet Cruze, on 12th September’09, that will coincide with the festive season. The Chevrolet Cruze will come in two variants – manual and automatic – but only with the diesel engine, lifted from the Chevrolet Captiva. The car will have more than 50 per cent localisation and will be rolled out fro its Halol facility in Gujarat. In India, the Chevrolet Cruze will be pitted against Honda Civic, Skoda Octavia, and Toyota Corolla which are also positioned in the upper midsize segment. The small car Chevrolet Beat will follow soon after the sedan and will provide the much needed sales momentum to GM in the biggest volume segment in India. You may recall that GM Chevrolet Cruze was first unleashed at the Paris Motor show in October 2009 and is designed and developed to be sold around the world. Internationally, the Chevrolet Cruze comes with 3 engine options starting with the 112 bhp 1.6 Litre 4 cylinder petrol, another 1.8 Litre 140 bhp petrol and the 2.0 Litre turbocharged common rail diesel engine from the Chevrolet Captiva SUV.

Anindya Banerjee, senior creative director, Publicis Communications (India) Limited, said, “Earlier, there was a misplaced notion amongst carmakers that only small cars sell like hot cakes. But latest results have proven the belief wrong. For instance, Maruti, which was always known for its small cars, got record bookings of Maruti Swift Dzire, which is an entry-level sedan. Similar cars like C-segment ‘Honda City’, and Toyota defied history by clocking 7,000 units of premium SUV- Toyota Fortuner. Mahindra Xylo MPV is also topping the sales charts. GM India is expecting to do the same with Chevrolet Cruze, a rage already in China and other overseas markets.
