VW Present Ultimate Super Beetle at SEMA Show
Recently at the 2012 SEMA Show, Volkswagen showed off their Beetle and Golf Mk6 models. The line-up showed the “Ultimate Super Beetle” which was based off the 2013 1.2-litre Beetle Turbo TFSI that produces 200bhp. The car was built in collaboration with performance tuning specialists APR and the VWvortex team.

The APR enhancements included an APR Stage IV GTX Turbocharger System, a high-performance intercooler system, an ECU upgrade, high-flow cylinder head and intake manifold and high-strength coated pistons and wrist pins, all of which boosted the power output to 500bhp. The drive-train was then hooked up to a 4MOTION AWD system borrowed from the Golf Type R.

VWvortex modifications included a DXD Racing Stage III clutch and Volkswagen Racing Short Shifter, new suspension components, some of which were sourced from the Audi TT RS, a six-piston, two-piece big brake system, 19-inch wheels, an aero package and Recaro sport seats.

VW showcased 6 of these Beetle models. These included European Car Magazine surf-inspired "Beach Battle-Cruiser" that comes with 400-horses under its hood, FMS Automotive's subtly tuned Beetle show car, the slammed-down Rotiform Beetle and Galpin Auto Sports'(GAS) “Chopped Top” Beetle. Interestingly FMS Automotive also presented a 1956 Beetle restored from scratch.
