Volkswagen T-Roc SUV Spied With Minimal Camouflage

Published On Apr 11, 2017 06:07 PM By Raunak

The T-Roc, which will sit below the Tiguan globally, is likely to enter the Indian market. If launched here, the T-Roc will go head-to-head with the Mahindra XUV5OO, top-end variants of the Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Renault Captur.

Volkswagen T-Roc compact SUV has been spied recently with absolutely no camouflage. The barely disguised vehicle seems to be the production-spec version of the T-Roc concept from the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

The T-Roc will sit below the Tiguan, which will be launched in India soon, in VW's global lineup. The production-spec T-Roc is said to make its public debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show with European sales beginning by the end of this year.

The T-Roc will be based on Volkswagen Group's MQB platform, like its concept. An iteration of this platform is also used by the VW Tiguan, Passat and the Skoda Octavia, Superb, Kodiaq along with the upcoming Polo and other VW Group cars. The automaker has already started the local manufacturing of the Tiguan in the country recently. Though not confirmed, there's a possibility that the T-Roc will make it to India considering the fact that Volkswagen Group has become more aggressive in the Indian market of late with a slew launches planned.

The two-door T-Roc concept had shorter footprints compared to Tiguan, and this near production-spec prototype looks similar. However, in terms of styling, it looks jazzier than it's bigger sibling, the Tiguan. Notice the rear windscreen is relatively more raked in the T-Roc as compared to the Tiguan. Mechanically, the T-Roc is expected to share its mechanicals with the upcoming Polo (naturally aspirated/TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines) and the Golf as well. Stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates on the T-Roc.
