Volkswagen Beetle units booked before launch
Once a highest-selling car across the world, Volkswagen Beetle, is seeing the same response in India what it got in late 70s. The small luxury car launch in India is scheduled on 4th December, 2009. Already 160 units of Volkswagen Beetle is booked prior to nationwide launch in India. The luxury small car comes at Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The cost of the car is more than it was expected. The reason is import duty as it will be a completely built unit and attracts 110 per cent duty thereby its four times costly than Volkswagen Polo-expected to be showcased in Auto Expo 2010.

The small luxury car comes loaded with 2 litre petrol engine with 6-speed automatic gear box. The car is expected to give 13-14 kmpl on Indian roads. The Volkswagen Beetle is equipped with multiple air bags, anti-lock braking system and conventional 15” alloy wheels.
