Toyota India Trademarks A New Name, Which New Model Could It Be For?

The carmaker has trademarked ‘Taisor’ for India, though we’re unsure if it’ll see the light of day

  • Toyota has many models lined up for India, including the new Innova Hycross and new-gen Urban Cruiser.

  • The freshly registered trademark name could be used for the new-gen Urban Cruiser to keep confusion away from the Hyryder.

  • It could also feature on Toyota’s equivalent of the upcoming Maruti Baleno-based crossover.

  • Toyota’s next big launch will be the Innova Hycross that is due to arrive in November.

Toyota has filed a trademark for the ‘Taisor’ name in India, suggesting the badge may feature on one of its future models. It has multiple cars in the pipeline for our market including the new Innova and a successor to the Urban Cruiser subcompact SUV.

The carmaker will also likely have its own version of the Maruti Baleno-based crossover that has been spotted testing a few times. It will bridge the gap between the new-gen Urban Cruiser and Hyryder, and it could very well bear the ‘Taisor’ badge.

Current-gen Toyota Urban Cruiser

Our second guess is that it could be used for the new-gen Urban Cruiser itself. There are two models currently bearing the ‘Urban Cruiser’ nameplate in Toyota India’s lineup with the arrival of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder compact SUV. We believe the carmaker could opt for a new name altogether for its sub-4m SUV to keep confusion at bay.

Having said that, we request you to take the trademark with a pinch of salt, as not all such filings see the light of the day.

What we do know for sure is that it will not be used for the new Innova that is set to debut next month. The updated premium MPV will receive the ‘Hycross’ suffix instead and a strong hybrid powertrain option too. It was recently spied testing again, with the latest sighting giving us a glimpse of its cabin and the larger touchscreen.
