 Barbus Model S

Brabus, the German luxury tuning and customisation company, has unveiled its iteration of Tesla Model S.  The luxury performance brand is known for tuning and customising premium Mercedes-Benz offerings. Brabus has time and again converted standard luxury Merc’s into performance oriented, high octane monsters. Hence, this project seems to be a deviation from Brabus’ long lasting tradition, in more ways than just one. It is for the first time that Brabus is taking a stab at an all-electric vehicle.

Seeing how Tesla Model S is powered by electric motors and not by conventional IC engines, it required an out of the box approach to enhance the performance statistics of this sedan.  Considering the fact that electric motors only have a single moving part,  any mechanical enhancements to the power plant was practically impossible. Hence, Brabus  opted to enhance other aspects of the car in order to improve its performance stats. Barbus Model S (Rear)

At the front, Brabus incorporated a carbon fibre splitter in the Model S, which helps reduce aerodynamic drag and lift. Making its way into the model S, is a rear spoiler, new 21 inch alloy wheels in black colour scheme, a rear carbon fibre diffuser and redesigned air intakes, which thereby enhance airflow.

The same attention to detail is carried on inside, the cabin and customers get a host of customisation options for the interiors, which include, carbon fibre, wood, leather, alcantara  and other luxurious materials. They have been incorporated to drape the passengers in sheer luxury. The car also features a completely redesigned central console, that incorporates a wireless charger, scuff plates with illuminated Brabus logo and even cup holders which support heating and cooling functions.

It is rather impressive to see how Brabus has used purely cosmetic changes  to stay true to its tuning heritage and enhance the overall performance of the relatively inaccessible Model S. This black beauty like the other Brabus offerings might just be available as made to order and if you happen to be in certain parts of Germany or for that matter California, you might just be lucky enough to spot one prancing around at a track near you.
