Renault Duster AWD - The Most Fuel Efficient AWD SUV in India @ 19.72km/l!

The car that solely made Renault a mainstream automaker in India – Renault Duster is getting it's first major upgrade since its inception in the country. Looks like the French automaker has tried to improve few sore points of the Duster, like the dashboard which is now more premium on the AWD version and the much craved by Duster fanatics, an all-wheel-drive system with independent suspensions. The shift-on-fly all-wheel-drive system has three mode – 2WD, Auto and Lock (4WD – Lock), Renault calls it 'i-Drive'. This setup makes the Duster AWD the most fuel efficient SUV in the county @ 19.72km/l and the sole compact SUV which gets power in all the four wheels!

Powering the AWD variant is the same 110PS version of the Renault's 1.5 dCi K9K motor. The variable-geometry turbo-charged inter-cooled diesel extracts 108.5bhp of maximum power while the torque stands tall at 248Nm. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Speaking of its major competitors, Ford EcoSport and its alter-ego Nissan Terrano are only FWD compact SUVs which leads Duster AWD to evade in Safari Storme 4x4 and new Mahindra Scorpio 4WD's territory.

Though Safari and Scorpio are bigger on space and road presence but Duster AWD holds enough techy on-board like ESP (Electronic Stability Programe) and ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) along with hill hold assist that makes Duster a competitive buy but it falls short on seating capacity and on few features when compared to Safari and Scorpio and score when it comes to ground clearance which is high at 210mm.
