Porsche to increase its dealerships in India

Porsche, the premium luxury car maker, considers the Indian auto market to be a growing market and so the company has decided to open as many as five dealerships by next year's end. The company wishes to take the advantage of the growing Indian auto market and to expand across country. At present, Porsche has four dealerships in India and the company by seeing its growth and the response has decided to spread its wings in the domestic auto market.

As per James Bourne, the regional operations manager for Porsche Middle East and Africa, India  has been showing great potential in the premium car segment and also has a noted demand for luxury vehicles. The company launched its first centre in South India and the third centre in India in Hyderabad after Mumbai and Delhi. Bourne rejoiced at the opening said that, the company has created drive for its luxury car in the Indian auto market. When asked about setting up an assembling facility in India, he replied, that, the company at present does not have any plans on setting up a manufacturing facility but in the long run, feasibility studies will be conducted and then a call will be taken,” he said.

He also mentioned that, the company in the wake of expanding will open five more showrooms by the end of next year in India. These will be in Chennai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Ahemadabad and Kochi. After the new outlets, the count of Porsche dealerships will be 10.  At present, the company is enjoying bookings of it's premium cars. Currently, there are 269 car bookings out of which 79 have already been running on the Indian roads. In the international market, the company has sold more than 100,000 cars. In the year 2009, Porsche sold 94 vehicles in India.

Porsche accepts that the demand for premium cars is still not much. The premium luxury car maker recently launched the second generation of Porsche Cayenne, which comes with a price tag between 65.82 lacs to 1.27 crore (ex-showroom), in India. Porsche launched the luxury car in five versions.

The Indian auto market is dominated by the small hatchback segment which covers 70 per cent of the domestic market. There has been a considerable increase in the demand for luxury cars but hatchbacks still holds the key to success for the car makers.
