Peugeot to bring 508 sedan at 2012 Auto Expo

Peugeot India is trying hard to get acknowledged in Indian car market. The French car maker is making all preparations to launch Peugeot Peugeot 508 sedan in the upcoming Auto Expo at Delhi in January 2012. It is revealed that the company will set up its stall during the Auto Expo 2012 very close to Volkswagen’s , which is considered to be its nearest rival in Indian market. Marc Bocque, World press and external relations manager at Peugeot was quoted on the sidelines of Frankfurt Motor Show where Peugeot Peugeot 508 sedan was displayed, as saying that the car would be launched in India as well. He added to the knowledge pool that after the Peugeot Peugeot 508 sedan, Peugeot will be introducing a C-segment car and then a B+ model in Indian market.

The company has finalized the site in Gujarat for its upcoming Rs 4,000 crore facility with an initial capacity of 1,70,000 cars per year. In the beginning the Peugeot Peugeot 508 sedan will be imported in India as CBU (Completely Built Unit) from the international line-up. However, Peugeot India will manufacture 508 as CKD unit after the completion of plant in Sanand, Gujarat. The company aims for a localisation level of 70-80% with the volume models. For that purpose, Peugeot India will be setting up an engine and gearbox plant at Sanand as well.

Peugeot India is eyeing at setting a dealership network in order to bring in force its top-down strategy for India. The volume driver cars are being made as per Indian requirements and keeping in view the demand. According to Bocque, Peugeot as a brand will stand apart because of its emphasis on styling, technological capabilities, especially with diesel engines, its reliability and quality. 508 luxury sedan is said to give a tough fight to German car maker’s Volkswagen Passat. Since Volkswagen Passat is priced at starting range of Rs 19.20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), 508 will come with competitive price tag. However Bocque denied to elaborate on the specifications and timeliness of the sedan.
