Nissan Magnite Turbo-Petrol CVT Fuel Efficiency: Claimed vs Real

Published On Jul 23, 2021 08:00 AM By Rohit for Nissan Magnite

Can the Magnite turbo-petrol CVT deliver its promised mileage in real-world driving conditions? We find out

The Magnite, Nissan’s debut offering in the sub-4m SUV segment, is a petrol-only model with two engine choices: 1.0-litre naturally aspirated (72PS/96Nm) and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (100PS/up to 160Nm). While the former is mated to a 5-speed MT only, the latter gets the choice of either a 5-speed MT or CVT. Let’s take a look at the engine specs along with the claimed and actual fuel efficiency figures of the Magnite we tested:

Engine Displacement

1.0-litre Turbo-petrol

Power

100PS

Torque

152Nm

Transmission

CVT

Claimed fuel efficiency

17.7kmpl

Tested fuel efficiency (city)

13.60kmpl

Tested fuel efficiency (highway)

18.34kmpl

While the Magnite CVT fell short by just over 4kmpl in the city, it surpassed its claimed fuel-efficiency figure by nearly 1kmpl on the highway.

Based on the results of our mileage test in city and highway driving conditions, we’ve estimated how it would perform in mixed driving conditions:

Mileage

City:Highway (50:50)

City:Highway (25:75)

City:Highway (75:25)

15.61kmpl

16.87kmpl

14.53kmpl

If the majority of your usage is restricted to the city, expect the Magnite CVT to deliver a mileage of around 14kmpl. For those who use their SUV mostly on wider stretches of roads, the fuel efficiency should go up by around 2kmpl. In case your commute is split equally between the city and highway, the Magnite CVT’s mileage could hover around 15kmpl.

It is important to note that fuel efficiency depends on a combination of driving condition, the car’s condition, and your driving style, so your experience may vary from ours. If you own a Magnite turbo-petrol CVT, feel free to share your findings with us in the comments.

It gives only 9 km per lt. in the city even when driving very carefully. Of course, the average speed in city I get is around 20 km per hour. The company is unable to solve the problem.
