Mitsubishi to Showcase New Technology on the Outlander at the Paris Motor Show

Mitsubishi Motors is planning to unveil its latest gift to the environment conscious driver at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The main feature of this show will be the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV. PHEV technology is of course nothing new in the automotive market; however what makes the new Outlander special is its adaptation of this technology and the fact that it is a 4WD. It is in fact the first 4WD vehicle to incorporate the PHEV technology. Another thing that is different about the Outlander is that it consists of both the PHEV option and has an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) option as well.

The Outlander comes with both the features to be used by the driver as and when it suits him.  The driver will be given a set of three options to choose from in terms of driving thanks to the Outlanders new drive-train combination of front electric motor plus rear electric motor along with front petrol engine. These options include a Pure Mode which will utilize a duo motor 4WD EV combination. In addition to this is the Series Mode which will utilize the twin motor 4WD EV combination supported by a generator. The last option is the Parallel Mode which is the ICE supported by the twin motor 4WD.

Thanks to the PHEV tech, users of the Outlander can travel up to 50 km with use of the 4WD electric mode and can also make the choice of how much they want to rely on the electric mode or focus on battery charging via the ICE mode. The new Outlander will allow for long range driving along with very low CO2 emissions. Base model variants of the vehicle will feature a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 147 horses under its hood and up to 195Nm of torque. The Outlander will also be available in a 2.2-litre DiD clean diesel variety with 147hp and 379Nm of torque with a manual transmission or 359Nm with automatic transmission.
