Maruti Vitara Brezza Facelift. How Will It Be Different?

While it will only be a facelift, the updated Vitara Brezza will feature a host of changes over the current model

Maruti's Vitara Brezza has had a long run without undergoing an update and the signs are beginning to show. The feature list is short compared to its rivals and the design is starting to age. So what changes can we expect in the upcoming facelift?

Powertrain

Maruti has publicly stated that they will not be selling diesel cars in the BS6 era. This has led to a lot of uncertainty about their diesel-only models, one of which is the Vitara Brezza. It is currently offered with the 1.3-litre diesel engine (90PS/200Nm) that is present in other Maruti models as well. The transmission options are a 5-speed manual and an AMT.

When the facelift comes around, all of this is going to go. The facelifted Vitara Brezza will be powered by a petrol engine. The engine in question is likely to be the 1.5-litre petrol motor (105PS/138Nm) with mild-hybrid tech that is offered in the Ciaz and Ertiga too. Expect Maruti to also carry over the 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter transmission options from the Ciaz.

Design

From the spy shots of the Vitara Brezza that we came across earlier, it was evident that the overall shape of the car is not going to change. Instead, Maruti will make subtle changes to the SUV to freshen up its design. We expect the Indian carmaker to tweak the front and rear bumper and make changes to the front grille as well along with a new set of alloy wheels.

Features

When the Vitara Brezza was first launched in 2015, its feature list was adequate for the competition. However, it's 2019 and there are a lot more rivals that offer a lot more features at the same price point.

We expect Maruti to address this by equipping the facelifted Vitara Brezza facelift with their new SmartPlay Studio infotainment system. We also expect them to add in features like cruise control and LED headlamps, which are now available on Maruti models priced lower than the Vitara Brezza. Maruti could also throw in a sunroof, considering most of the competition offers it in some form or the other.

Price

As the Vitara Brezza will be going from being a diesel SUV to a petrol SUV, we don't expect a huge hike in price. The current Vitara Brezza retails between Rs 7.62 lakh and Rs 10.64 lakh (both ex-showroom New Delhi) and we expect the facelift to be priced between Rs 7.5 lakh and Rs 11 lakh. Maruti could even further lower the price of the base variant of the Vitara Brezza so that it can compete with the Tata Nexon.

Launch Date

While a date has not been set, it wouldn't come as a surprise if Maruti were to launch the Vitara Brezza facelift within a month -- that is December 2019. If the Indian carmaker does not launch it this year, we expect a launch before or at the 2020 Auto Expo that kicks off in early-February.
