The increasing demand for alternative fuel options has encouraged Maruti Suzuki India to test the waters in developing CNG and hybrid cars. The leading car manufacturer of the country has already announced its plans to offer CNG variants in additional models. The MD and CEO of MSI, Shinzo Nakanishi had made some astonishing revelations on the subject, saying that the electric variants on the SX4 sedan and the Eeco are already on track. RC Bhargava, the Chairman of MSI has made an enthusiastic comment on the response they have received on the proposed increase of CNG variants in the country. According to him, a positive response has been received from the consumers from the areas where the CNG fuel is available in abundance. However, the other areas have to be worked upon. It is the Government’s prerogative from here on, to amply equip the areas with the CNG fuel to combat the high usage of petrol, which usually has their budget plans go haywire.

The CNG and the hybrid variants not only bring the car emissions down, but also help the consumers with low running costs. Moreover, the  hybrid SX4 sedan used at the Common Wealth games at New Delhi is said to be 25% more fuel efficient than the petrol car, lifting the hopes of the consumers drastically. MSI is said to work on the low budget hybrid cars to increase the optimization of the cars. However, the company will have to expedite the process of offering the hybrid and the CNG cars. The time-lines and the prices of the ‘Eco-friendly’ models are not yet revealed by the company.
