Maruti Alto with K-series engine coming next month

Maruti Alto, India's largest selling car will soon get a new version that would be powered by the most popular K-series engine. This new version is speculated to be launched by next month and all eyes are set for the launch to happen soon. The current version of Maruti Suzuki Alto is powered by a 800cc engine, and thus the new K Series engine comes as a respite to the buyers who want more power and better fuel economy.

Better technology comes with higher costs and so does this new engine. Presently the top end model of Maruti Alto costs Rs 2.75 lakhs and this face-lift is sure to add another 25-35 K in the current price tag. As of now, Tata Nano, world's cheapest car bags the position of being the most fuel efficient vehicle with an efficiency of 23.6 (as quoted by the ARAI figures). With the new K series engine backing the performance of all new Maruti Alto, it is expected to provide an efficiency of over 20 kmpl.

Maruti Alto has been an extremely popular car in the Indian market, grossing good sales over the years mainly because of its low price tag. The company expects to attract 50% more sales with this makeover. Along with the introduction of K-series engine, Maruti Suzuki India is also planning to launch a stripped down version of Alto that would be priced at, in a range similar to Maruti 800. Maruti 800 had been the flagship model of Maruti Suzuki for years and was withdrawn from 13 cities due to the compliance issue with the latest BS IV norms.
