Mahindra Mahindra that recently launched its first four-seater electric car e2o, is now planning to launch its flagship sedan Verito's electric version in an year's time. The company has plans to invest Rs 150 crore for developing electric versions of its three vehicle- Verito, Maxximo and Gio.

Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of CII AGM, MM President- Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, Pawan Goenka said that the company will use the electric vehicle technology to some of their existing vehicles. "We are almost ready with the electric Gio and Maxximo, while we have also developed a prototype for the electric Verito," he said.

The company has already readied 50 units of electric Maxximos, which they will launch after assessing the people's response to the e2o. he added. Speaking about the electric Mahindra Verito, Goenka said,"The prototype is ready. Verito is a heavier car than the e2o. There has to be adjustment and optimisation of the technology, and we will be ready to launch it in a year's time."

When asked about the e2o's initial response from the market, he said that the car has created a lot of interest and queries, however the buying conversion is lower than expected. He also hopes to get subsidy from other states to promote electric vehicles like Delhi. Delhi has provided 29 per cent subsidy on sale of electric car. The company is confident to sell about 400-500 e2o units every month in the domestic market, he added.

The response however might not be as good as the company expected, but we appreciate the efforts of Mahindra Mahindra, which has constantly working on alternative fuel options and technologies. So, we wish them all the best for their next endeavours.
