Features the same 6.5-litre V12 as the Aventador but packs more punch

Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini will launch the replacement for the standard Aventador tomorrow in India. Called the Aventador S, it is slated to become the second new offering from Lamborghini in India this year. The company launched the Huracan RWD Spyder on February 1, 2017. The Aventador S comes to India after making its global debut in December last year.

Powering the Aventador S is the same 6.5-litre, naturally aspirated V12 that does duty under the hood of the standard Aventador and the Aventador SV. In the ‘S’ avatar, the engine belts out 740PS of power and 690Nm of torque. That’s 40PS more than the model it replaces in India but 10PS less than the Aventador SV. The engine is paired to a seven-speed ISR (Independent Shifting Rods) gearbox and power is transmitted to the road via an electronically controlled all-wheel–drive system. The set-up helps the ‘S’ to crack the 100kmph mark from naught in a mere 2.9 seconds and the top speed, Lamborghini claims, is clocked at 350kmph.

In terms of design, the Aventador S comes with a restyled front bumper, a new rear bumper that houses a big diffuser for high-speed stability, and three exhaust pipes in the centre of the diffuser. The exhaust system seems to have been put on a diet as it is 20 per cent lighter compared to the one in the standard Aventador. Inside the cabin, apart from the new TFT display (with new graphics) that comes in place of the instrument cluster, everything remains unchanged.

The Aventador S is the first production-spec Lambo that comes equipped with four-wheel steer. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels. The idea is to crop the turning radius down and make the car more freely manoeuvrable. At high speeds, however, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels to help the car achieve higher stability.

Prices for the Aventador S are expected to hover around Rs 5.5 crore. Lamborghini will introduce the coupe version of the ‘S’ trim, with the Spyder possibly making it to Indian shores later.
