Hyundai Creta - 5 Things You Must Know About

Modified On Aug 01, 2015 11:40 AM By Raunak

Hyundai India is ready to venture into the compact SUV space and it’s always intriguing to see the Korean automaker launching a totally new product in the country!

Hyundai has officially revealed the name of its upcoming compact SUV, it is christened as ‘Creta’. Which in terms of Hyundai - ‘pronunciation of Creta evokes welcome similarities with the term ‘creative’.’ It was first launched in China and is known as ix25 there, but for India and rest of the global markets it will be Creta. The vehicle will rival a lot of SUVs and Crossovers in the country, like Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Ford EcoSport along with Mahindra Scorpio, Tata Safari Storme, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki S Cross. Let us see five interesting facts about the upcoming Hyundai Creta; which is most likely to launch in the month of July! Prices are likely to be in the range of Renault Duster, that means in-between 8-13 lacs. Check out the expert review video.

Looks Like a Baby Santa-Fe

Santa-Fe is a looker when compared to the rest of its peers and definitely turns more head than the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 which starts at a somewhere similar price where it ends. Now, this Creta looks like a baby Santa-Fe, following Hyundai Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy and will undoubtedly be the most flamboyant of the lot.

To accentuate the road presence, it gets things like projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs and diamond cut alloy wheels. Furthermore, it gets all-around body cladding, blacked-out A-pillar, and wrap-around taillamps. Good job Hyundai!

Will Borrow Engines from Hyundai Verna

Just like they did with the Verna, to keep the prices competitive and varied over the range, Hyundai will keep multiple engine options. The SUV is expected to borrow engine options from the Verna - 1.6-liter and 1.4-liter diesel along with the spirited 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol. The 1.4-liter petrol from Verna is not likely to pull this SUV. Adding more to it, the 1.6-liter diesel motor will give it the upright performance in the class with 120+ bhp and 260 Nm of a max twist!

Hyundai’s Blue Link Infotainment System

It offers Hyundai's Blue Link Infotainment system in China, and few of its spy shots in India, while testing, reveals that it features a similar large touch screen unit as seen on the Chinese variant. The system features touchscreen unit with built-in navigation along with smartphone integration through the mobile app.

Automatic Transmission Options and AWD

It is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission in China and is expected that Hyundai India will offer the same transmission with the Creta, maybe at later stages if not at the launch. Moreover, it also features all-wheel-drive there and seeing that most of the rivals of the Creta in India offers AWD/4WD majorly the Duster (even Maruti is expected to offer its AllGrip AWD with the upcoming S Cross), Hyundai India could offer the same in the country. Again, at later stages if not at the time of the launch. Apart from this, it will feature 6-Speed manual for the diesel and 5-speed manual for the petrol.

Will be Spacious Since it’s Not Sub-4m

It's not under 4 meters (4000 mm) like the Ford EcoSport, Creta measure 4270 mm (nearly 4.2 meters). When compared to Renault Duster it is little shorter as Duster measures 4315 mm (4.3 meters). Moreover the wheelbase is 2590 mm, slightly larger than EcoSport’s 2520 mm but Duster edges over with 2673 mm. In a nutshell, though it comes lil’ shorter on specs compared to Duster but will be adequately spacious for its five occupants and will feature close to 400 liters of boot space.
