Honda’s president and CEO, Takahiro Hachigo, has announced the unveiling of all-new Accord this year at the automaker’s annual meeting – Honda Meeting 2017.

As the new model is scheduled to go on sale first in the US, expect the world debut to happen there as well just like the fifth-gen CR-V and the tenth-gen Civic.

The 2018 Accord was first spied testing in the US in July 2016. It is believed to be based on Honda’s new lightweight modular platform, which made its debut with the current Civic. The new Civic is reportedly being evaluated for a comeback in India.

The fifth-generation India-bound CR-V is also based on the same platform. The 2017 CR-V received a turbocharged petrol engine from Honda’s new VTEC Turbo family, that made its debut with the previous-gen Civic Type R.

The Accord nameplate is said to drop its gas-guzzling V6 petrol offerings with the tenth-generation model altogether for a 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo motor from the Civic Type-R in a lower state of tune. The 2.4-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol is likely to be continued.

Speaking of its hybrid version, the 2018 model is expected to carry forward the current Accord Hybrid’s drivetrain, which was thoroughly updated with the ninth-gen facelift model. The Accord re-entered India in October 2016 in this same ninth-gen facelift avatar as a hybrid-only car.

The camouflaged test mule from last year hinted that the 2018 Accord will have a fastback-like silhouette similar to the Civic, which is touted as one of the prime reasons for its global popularity (check out the image below). Honda has also announced that it will introduce a brand new design language later this year and the Accord is likely to be based on the same.

Expect the tenth-generation Accord to make its debut as early as 2019 here, since the current model made its debut last year only after a hiatus of a few years. Honda could also locally assembly the new model to make it competitive in terms of pricing like the relatively popular, locally-assembled Toyota Camry Hybrid.
