Accord highlights

The tenth-generation Honda Accord made its world debut in Detroit, USA recently. It packs a ground-up design, a pair of turbocharged petrol engines (for the first time) and an updated hybrid powertrain along with additional features. It is expected to be launched in the country in 2019.

Honda relaunched the Accord in India at Rs 37 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) in October 2016 as a hybrid-only offering. This ninth-gen facelift model made its world debut last year in America and was also showcased at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo.

It comes with goodies such as leather upholstery, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, all-LED lighting (inside-out) and electrically adjustable front seats among others. It is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol motor paired to a 1.3kW electric powerplant that belts out 215PS of power put together. Transmission duties are handled by an e-CVT gearbox, and ARAI-certified fuel efficiency is rated at 23.1kmpl

The Accord Hybrid takes on the likes of the Skoda Superb, Toyota Camry Hybrid and the upcoming Volkswagen Passat.

Honda Accord review

Perhaps, the introduction of the Camry in a hybrid avatar and its popularity forced Honda to reinstated its flagship sedan – the Accord – in the Indian market and, this time it is offered solely with a hybrid variant. Honda Cars India launched the global facelifted ninth-generation Accord in 2016. The Japanese automaker discontinued the eighth-generation Accord from India in 2013 owing to diminutive scales and buyers’ inclination towards diesel-powered cars (the Accord never came with a diesel motor). However, the Accord’s arch rival – the Toyota Camry – continued with a petrol offering. Will the new hybrid-only Honda Accord help the nameplate in its second innings? Time to find out!

Things We Like in Accord

  • Abundance of low-end torque will result in effortless driveability in traffic
  • The Honda Accord is the most powerful sedan in its class with 215PS 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain
  • The most fuel-efficient sedan in its class with an ARAI certified mileage of 23.1kmpl
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay comes really handy with smartphone integration

Things We Don't Like in Accord

  • Exorbitantly priced, courtesy CBU import. Priced almost Rs 7 lakh more than the Toyota Camry Hybrid
  • Misses the Toyota Camry’s individual rear seat recline feature
  • Doesn't come with driver knee airbag (total six-airbags) whereas the Toyota Camry offers a total of nine airbags, including driver knee and side rear

Stand Out Features

  • Honda offers best-in-class 235/45 cross-section 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels

CarDekho Verdict

The current Honda Accord is possibly the best-ever iteration of the nameplate, but it’s direct Thai-import results in an exorbitant price tag. However, Honda is trying to cover it with the Accord’s more advanced hybrid powertrain, compared to the Toyota Camry Hybrid, which is its sole competitor, along with all of its latest global tech such as the LaneWatch, and others.

"The Honda Accord arguably makes up for its exorbitant pricing with the most advanced hybrid powertrain in its segment and all the gizmos it offers. "
