Crossover hatches, which are basically rugged iterations of premium hatchbacks have become rather popular. The primary reason for this admiration is the practicality offered by them, courtesy of increased ground clearance that helps these cars tackle the “special” road infrastructure of India and creature comforts derived from the premium hatchbacks. One such premium hatchback that has taken the market by storm is the Honda Jazz and spyshots of its cladding-laced crossover have surfaced for the first time. The 2016 Honda Jazz crossover prototype was spied making rounds on the streets of Brazil.

It is highly probable that the crossover will be named ‘Honda Jazz Twist’. The previous generation of this crossover was exclusive to Brazilian market but considering the hospitable Indian market conditions and popularity of Honda Jazz, there is a possibility that the car will make its way to India. Even though the test mule was heavily camouflaged, one can easily spot bigger alloy wheels, the redesigned tougher-looking bumper, roof rails, underbody cladding, which go hand-in-hand with the skid plates at the front and the rear of the car to provide it with a more utilitarian appeal.

It is likely that the car will be powered by the same engine options that are available with the Honda Jazz and expect the same treatment for the interiors as well. In India, Honda Jazz comes with a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit, which is derived from the City sedan and comes coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The power-plant produces 100PS and 200 Nm and claims a fuel economy of 27.3 kmpl. The petrol mill is a 1.2-litre petrol unit, which comes with an option of either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission that is available with paddle shifters. If and when launched the crossover will rival the likes of Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Avventura, VW Cross Polo and others.
