General Motors Talegaon Plant Turns Two Plans to increase production to 160,000 units
The Talegaon Plant at Pune of General Motors celebrated its 2nd anniversary today. This massive Unit of GM India started on September 2008. The Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Beat are built at this unit. The Talegaon plant has clocked a total production of 84,349 units till 31st July 2010 and registered the highest production figures in April 2010 with 6856 units. In house stamping is also done at this facility.
Currently the Talegaoen plant of GM has a production capacity of 140, 000 per annum and GM India plans to increase it to 160,000-unit Powertrain (Engine) Plant at the Talegaon plant premises by the end of this year. This will be the first flexi-engine plant for General Motors globally wherein both petrol and diesel small car engines are going to be manufactured together.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. P Balendran, Vice-President, GM India said that General Motors India has come a long way in the country and has received an overwhelming response to its best-in-class products registering record sales month-on-month. Mr Balendran also said that GM India’s manufacturing facility at Talegaon has played a vital role in matching the supply with the increasing demand expectations. He later added that the addition of the 2nd shift will also help in reaching the magic figure of 160,000 units that GM plans by the year end.
