Ford Endeavour Sport: Five Things You Should Know

Is it just a cosmetic package or does it one-up the standard Endeavour in terms of features as well?

To keep things fresh with the Endeavour, Ford seems ready to drop an athletic-looking version of the SUV, the Sport. It was recently spotted undergoing testing on our roads and parked at a dealer yard, hinting at an Indian introduction as well. Think of it as Ford’s answer to the Toyota Fortuner TRD Limited Edition. But how fitting could this answer be? Let’s find out in five simple points.

Exterior

  • Unlike the Fortuner TRD that gets a handful of additional features, the Endeavour Sport is likely to be a purely cosmetic upgrade. As the images reveal, it gets a gloss black honeycomb grille instead of the multi-slat chrome grille.

  • A similar dark treatment has been meted out to the bumper and the bi-LED headlamps. Unlike the Australia-spec Everest Sport (Endeavour’s namesake in global markets), there’s no brand lettering above the front grille on the bonnet here.

  • The glossy and darkened roof rails, outside rearview mirror, and the updated 18-inch alloy wheels are complemented by ‘Sport’ lettering on the bottom of the rear door. The Everest Sport rides on 20-inch alloys.

  • At the rear, you get a Sport applique on the tailgate and a splash of glossy black that we’ve already seen upfront.

Interior

  • While the regular Ford Endeavour gets a dual-tone interior trim, the Sport could feature all-black upholstery with blue stitching.

  • The black leather seats are also likely to bear Sport insignia on the backrest to differentiate it from the standard SUV.

  • Other features shall remain the same with the inclusion of an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 10-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, active noise cancellation, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, semi-auto parallel park assist, and 8-way power-adjustable driver and co-passenger seat.

Powertrain

  • The Endeavour Sport’s engine will remain unchanged, so it will get the usual 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbo-diesel engine that puts out 170PS and 420Nm. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission which is a first for India. Ford is likely to offer the Sport variant with both the 4X4 and 4X2 drivetrains.

Prices

  • Unlike Toyota’s Fortuner TRD Limited Edition that gets additional features, the Endeavour Sport gets only cosmetic updates. We expect it to command a minor premium of around Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 over the corresponding top-spec Titanium+ variant.

Rivals

Apart from the evident Japanese rival, it will compete against the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Mahindra Alturas G4, and the upcoming MG Gloster.
