    Electric Variant of Chevrolet Spark to be launched by GM

    General Motors, American car maker, is in talks with Bangalore based Electric car maker Reva Electric Car Company to roll out electric variants of its small car Chevrolet Spark. The company wants to source the technology from Reva Electric Car Company to bring out an electric variant of Chevrolet Spark for the overseas market. “We have been pursuing opportunities for commercial application of alternative fuel options, including bio-diesel, jatropha arrangement with CSMCRI (Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute), electric, fuel cell, hydrogen etc, with many parties for quite some time,” said GM India’s vice-president of corporate affairs, P Balendran.As soon as plans for introduction of any alternative fuel solutions will materailize, company will announce the same,” he added.

    The project is currently awaiting a green signal from its headquarters in Detroit. Indian market is considered as an extremely significant market by the company and thereby developing electric vehicles in India for overseas markets will be General Motor's attempts to stay put strongly in the Indian market. GM India is wholly owned subsidiary of the General Motors.
