The Ciaz will be the first petrol car in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup to get the SHVS tech, like it was with the diesel

Ciaz facelift for the Chinese market

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will soon get a facelift and the updates won’t just be cosmetic. Sources working on the project have confirmed that the 2018 Ciaz (facelift) will get a 1.5-litre petrol engine that will replace the existing 1.4-litre K14B unit. But that’s not all on the engine front. The 1.5-litre petrol engine will also get the SHVS (mild hybrid) tech which would make the Ciaz the first petrol car in Maruti’s portfolio to be equipped with one.

Even though Suzuki offers SHVS on some of its petrol models abroad, the Ciaz will be the first Maruti Suzuki car with a petrol engine to get the same. Also, since the K15B (the 1.5-litre petrol engine that the Ciaz is expected to get) just made its debut on the second-gen Ertiga, it will most likely be the first instance (on the Ciaz facelift) that this engine is hybridised. Know in detail about the 2018 Ertiga here.

The K15B engine makes 104.7PS of maximum power and 138Nm of peak torque on the Indonesia-spec second-gen Ertiga. The 1.4-litre petrol engine of the Ciaz currently produces 92PS of maximum power and 130Nm of peak torque. So, the new engine should not only be more powerful than the outgoing one, thanks to SHVS, it should be more fuel efficient and environment-friendly as well.

China-spec Ciaz facelift

Presently, the Ertiga, Ciaz and the S-Cross get SHVS but with the DDiS 200 (1.3-litre, 90PS, 200Nm) only. These are also the only non-sub-4m cars in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio barring the Gypsy, which measures just over 4m but is due for a mega makeover now. Currently, the Ciaz is priced between Rs 7.38 lakh and Rs 11.51 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). That is bound to go up after the Ciaz facelift is launched. The second-gen Ertiga, which is expected to be launched before Diwali 2018, might also get this engine. Besides the new motor, the Ciaz facelift is also expected to come with redesigned front and rear bumpers.
