Tata Kite 5 Compact Sedan Showcased at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo
Tata has unveiled its Zica-based compact sedan, Kite S at the ongoing Auto Expo, which is being held in the Greater Noida region. After the unveil of Zica hatchback, the little hatchback garnered substantial attention, courtesy of its design and various segment-first features and you get all of that in the Kite S but with the added practicality of a boot.

Tata has unveiled its Zica-based compact sedan, codenamed Kite 5 (now called the Tata Tigor), at the ongoing Auto Expo, which is being held in the Greater Noida region. After the unveil of Zica hatchback, few moths ago, the compact car had managed to garner substantial attention, courtesy of its design and various segment-first features. You can get all of that in the Kite 5, but with the added practicality of a boot. The car doesn’t seem awkward, as many hatchback-based compact sedans do, but it seems rather symmetrical.
The company intends on introducing the compact sedan version soon after the upcoming launch of Zica hatchback. The reason for the possible delay might be the fact that the Indian automaker wouldn’t want to compromise on the sales of its soon-arriving hatchback.
If Zica stands for the Zippy-car characteristics, which are a courtesy of its compact design, then the sedan version is meant to ensure the high level of passenger comfort, which would help the occupants " sway" through the ride.
Aesthetically, Kite 5 also incorporates a stubby boot and short overhangs, which help it fit under the sub-4 meter compact sedan tax bracket. The interiors are also shared with Zica hatchback and features the highly coveted Harman powered infotainment unit, which comes mated to an eight speaker sound system. The AC pallets are also the same colour as the body, like the ones featured in the Zica hatchback. Other than this , safety features like ABS and dual airbags might come as standard.
Under the hood, Kite 5 remains mechanically unaltered and incorporates the same range of powerplants seen in the Zica hatchback, which includes the 1.2 litre 3-cylinder Revotron, capable of generating 85PS and 114Nm of torque and the 1.05 litre Revotorq motor, which produces 70PS and 140Nm of max torque. The powerplants comes mated to a standard 5-speed manual transmission, but one can also opt for an AMT gearbox, if they intend on purchasing the car at a latter stage.
