  • Hyundai’s smallest SUV for Europe will be called Bayon.

  • Launch expected in the first half of 2021.

  • It borrows design inspiration from the Kona.

  • Interior looks similar to the new i20.

  • It will not be launched in India.

The Venue is a popular car, being sold not only in India but also the USA. Hyundai however doesn’t sell the Venue in Europe, and now we know why. It will be introducing a crossover/SUV in the European region which will be called the Bayon. It will be their smallest SUV in Europe and will sit underneath the ICE powered Kona. It will essentially be to Europe what the Venue is to India.

Hyundai is expected to launch the small SUV in the first half of 2021. It has recently been spied undergoing testing, which has revealed quite some things about the SUV. The headlights look inspired by those of the Kona and the tail lamps look like they are all LED units.

The Bayon might serve the purpose that the Venue serves in India, but essentially it is based on the new third-gen i20, which was recently launched in India. The interior of the Bayon also looks similar to that of the premium hatchback. Spy shots have also revealed a digital instrument cluster, a large floating touchscreen infotainment system, and heated front seats. While cooled seats are a priority for India, heated seats work better in Europe due to the colder climate.

WIth its crossover-ish appeal, it will be a spiritual successor to the Active i20. It will however not be coming to India, since the Venue is already sold here. The Venue, which is priced between Rs 6.75 lakh to Rs 11.75 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi) has more traditional SUV like rivals in the market in the form of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, the recently launched Kia Sonet and more.
