2025 Kia Carens Clavis vs Hyundai Alcazar: Go For A Premium MPV Or A Mid-size SUV At A Similar Price?

The 2025 Kia Carens Clavis was launched recently in India with a lot more premium features and sharper styling elements that differentiates it from its segment. An interesting aspect is that the top-spec variant of the Carens Clavis is closely matched to another three-row option in the form of the Hyundai Alcazar.
While the Clavis is an MPV and the Alcazar is an SUV, there is only Rs 24,000 separating these two cars.So, would you choose the new Kia MPV or the Hyundai mid-size SUV? Let us find out:

Although prices of base variants of the Kia Carens Clavis and Hyundai Alcazar differ by around Rs 3.50 lakh, top-spec trims of both Korean offerings differ by a marginal Rs 24,000. Do note that the top-spec variant of the Carens Clavis can be had with a turbo-petrol engine only whereas the Alcazar offers both turbo-petrol and diesel options.

There is very little that differentiates between the Kia MPV and the Hyundai SUV in terms of their dimensions. While the Alcazar is slightly longer than the Clavis, the Hyundai gets a slightly shorter wheelbase.

Except for the naturally aspirated petrol engine which the Clavis gets, both the turbo-petrol and diesel options are shared between both models. The performance figures are exactly identical, but the Clavis offers an iMT with the turbo-petrol option, which isn’t offered in the Hyundai Alcazar.

Both the Kia Carens Clavis and Hyundai Alcazar come with commonalities including an all-LED lighting setup, roof rails, rear wiper and washer, an option between 6- or 7-seats, ventilated front row seats, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, and powered driver’s seat. The safety suite of both Korean offerings feature 6 airbags (as standard), Level-2 ADAS, 360-degree camera and disc brakes on all wheels.
However, over the new Kia MPV, the Alcazar features bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, ventilated 2nd row seats, electric boss mode for middle row passengers, memory function for driver’s seat, all of which is not offered in the Clavis.
The Carens Clavis, on the other hand, gets bigger dual 12.3-inch displays and dual-camera dashcam, both of which are not offered with the Hyundai 3-row SUV.
Interestingly, the panoramic sunroof in both cars is limited to the turbo-petrol engine in both cars. The Clavis diesel gets a smaller single-pane sunroof, while the Alcazar diesel misses out on any type of sunroof altogether.
Verdict
Both the Hyundai Alcazar and Kia Carens Clavis have a well-loaded package that should keep most customers happy. That said, the Hyundai Alcazar gets a nicer second-row experience courtesy of the ventilated second row seats and a powered boss mode function, both of which the Clavis doesn’t offer.
Also, the Alcazar offers both the petrol and diesel engines in its top variants whereas the Clavis gets only the turbo-petrol engine option, giving the Hyundai offering an upper hand. So while the Alcazar focuses on providing a more premium experience, the Clavis is a choice you won’t go wrong with considering its strong fundamentals like a comfortable ride and cabin, a features suite that satisfies the masses as well as a new and updated look.
