Volkswagen up!

Volkswagen seems to be on a roll. The German automaker just launched its Czech subsidiary’s luxury sedan, the Skoda Superb, revealed its compact SUV concept and now, has released the images of its up! hatchback facelift.  For the uninitiated, up! hatchback was felicitated with the ‘World Car of the Year award’ in the year 2012. This should give you a fair idea of how impressive and important this little hatchback is. As far as the facelift is concerned, the updated hatchback features a redesigned front bumper and an all new headlamp cluster. Also making its way into the hatchback are the LED DRLS, LED taillamp cluster accented by a chrome strip on the tailgate, fog lamps integrated into the bumper, wing mirrors with LED indicators and new alloy wheels. The car will be offered with an option of 13 colour schemes, out of which the customers will also get to chose from an option of 3 roof hues.

Step inside the cabin and the updates continue. up! features a refreshed dashboard, which will be available in 10 different design layouts. With so many options on offer, Volkswagen is trying to bestow its consumers with the freedom of personalising their cars to a point where every unit is unique in itself, enabling the cars to shed off the mass produced feel. Customers will also get a 300-watt Beats Audio System, which will come mated to a 7-speaker sound system (which is a lot for a car this size) and a Pure Air Climatronic automatic air conditioning system.

The changes are not just skin deep, as the updated up! hatchback also gets a new engine option. Under the hood, up! is powered by a range of powerplant options, which includes a 1.0-litre 3 cylinder petrol mill which is available in two states of tune viz. 54bhp and 74bhp. The turbocharged version of the same powerplant is also on offer and produces an impressive 100bhp of power output. There is also an all electric version of the two-door hatchback available, which along with the 54bhp 3-cylinder variant will be the ideal candidate for the Indian market, should Volkswagen ever decide on bringing up! to the country.
