    Volkswagen e-golf to hit markets by 2013

    Volkswagen has plans to launch a foray of electric cars in India soon. The first to hit the roads would be Volkswagen Golf with an e-version. The car is speculated to be launched by the year 2013. After the launch of Golf, Volkswagen also has plans to come up with the electric versions of Volkswagen Up and the Volkswagen Jetta as well.

    With the growing fuel prices in India many auto makers are targeting on the alternate sources of fuel like natural gas and electricity. Volkswagen aims to produce a electric car that could be afforded by every segment of users. For the purpose of launching these cars Volkwagen in in lieu of partnership and support from companies like Toshiba and Sanyo of Japan.

    Officials from the company commented that the key component in manufacturing electric cars is the powerful and affordable lithium-ion battery. For the right assistance on the same, the car giant is in talks with Chinese battery and car producer BYD.

    Volkswagen has been in news recently with the launch of its premier hatchback Volkswagen Polo that has already roped good booking numbers. Also, there is news of Volkswagen Vento coming into the Indian automobile market that would be competing against Honda City.
