Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Maruti recently launched its highly anticipated compact SUV - the Vitara Brezza. Launched at a price tag of Rs. 6.99 lakhs for the base variant, the Brezza is available in 6 variants. The compact SUV is available with a diesel engine only; mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Maruti have confirmed that the Brezza will get a petrol motor in the near future. It remains to be seen if the compact SUV gets the 1.2 litre motor from the Swift or the larger 1.4 litre motor from the Ertiga. A recent report by IndianAutosBlog reveals that Maruti has no plans for to introduce the car with its mild hybrid technology (SHVS).

The company claims that their sub- 4 metre SUV is capable of returning 24.3 kmpl, courtesy - the tried and tested 1.3-litre DDiS200 motor. Customers across India hoped that Maruti will better their offering by introducing the car with the SHVS technology that is found in the company’s Ciaz sedan, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Mr. C.V. Raman, Executive Director, Engineering, Maruti-Suzuki said that the Brezza is already the most fuel-efficient car in it's class with the claimed 24.3 kmpl figure. It supersedes the claimed mileage offered by its rivals like the Ford EcoSport (22.27 kmpl) and the Mahindra TUV300 (18.49 kmpl) and the company sees no need for the Brezza to incorporate the SHVS technology.

Not only is the Brezza more fuel efficient than its competitors in the segment, it is also more efficient than the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and the company’s very own S-Cross premium crossover and the Ertiga MPV. The 1.3-litre DDiS200 mill is Maruti’s time-tested motor and delivers 90 PS of power output and 200 Nm of peak torque. We are glad Maruti did not give us the Brezza with the 75PS/190Nm tune - the auto-maker finally seems to be listening to the masses. The TUV300 in comparison belts out 82PS/230Nm and the Ecosport's diesel mill churns out 100PS/205Nm. That puts the Brezza squarely in the middle, as far as the number game goes.
