Toyota Showcases TS040 Hybrid Le Mans Race Car at 2016 Auto Expo

Toyota has showcased their hybrid - Le Mans race car at the on-going 2016 India Auto Expo. The TS040 hybrid has been showcased at the Japanese automaker’s ‘Hybrid Zone’, in their pavilion, at the Expo. The TS040 is the successor of TS030 and it competed in the 2014 as well as the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship season. It was developed for the 2014 Le Mans Prototype rules and was revised for the year 2015.

The vehicle is made of carbon fibre composite with polycarbonate windscreen. Speaking of the powertrain, TS040 is powered by a 3.7-litre 90° naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine. It also features two motors, placed at both the axles, the front is from Aisin AW, while the rear one is from Denso. Toyota calls this hybrid powertrain - ‘Toyota Hybrid System – Racing (THS-R)’ and it comes mated to a 7-speed sequential shift gearbox. According to the automaker, the hybrid generates a combined output of over 1000 PS.

The vehicle is 4650 mm longer, 1900 mm wider and features a height of 1050 mm. The steering wheel is hydraulically assisted and it features ventilated carbon front and rear discs. It rides on Rays' magnesium forged wheels, 13 x 18-inch rims; both at front and rear.
