Recently, we brought to you the news that Toyota has announced that they will not be launching any new product for the next 3 years and will instead focus on its current line of products. Toyota seems to be keen on sticking to this new strategy as they refuted any plans to bring in its Lexus brand of cars to India. The rumours about Lexus's entry into the Indian market have finally been squashed.
Toyota officials said that they were at one point keen on bring in the Lexus brand but then postponed the execution of that idea due to import costs and rupee volatility. The decision makes sense considering that the standards required to assemble the Lexus are quite strict and if brought it in as a CBU, the pricing factor would make it impossible to sell. So for now, it looks like Toyota really is content with just developing its current market presence in India.
