Update: After the success of the popular MPV Innova, Toyota has unveiled the next-gen Innova dubbed as Innova Crysta. The vehicle has already been launched in Indonesia and will come as a refreshing change in the Indian market after the decade long run of the original one. The new gen Innova Crysta comes with a lot of cosmetic changes including a large hexagonal front grille, projector head-lights with LED running lamps and more premium interiors inside. The engine has been refreshed as well with the presence of new 2.4 litre 2GD FTV four-cylinder diesel engine. Check out the complete Auto Expo coverage of Toyota Innova Crysta.

Facing wrath of ban placed by the Supreme Court, carmakers have started looking for other options available to keep  their products alive. While some automakers have started focusing on electric vehicles, others are concentrating their efforts on petrol engine.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor lost two of its highest selling vehicles namely Innova  and Fortuner. The Japanese company has started deliberating whether to introduce the petrol variants of these cars, considering their popularity. TS  Jaishankar, Deputy Managing Director (commercial), Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, "When we started selling the Innova, we had made available a petrol version. It was discontinued as demand was largely diesel-driven. We have to see now ...If it warrants, we have to get it back."

Expressing skepticism over the future amendment in order, Jaishankar said that the company needs to work on other options as well. He explained that sales in NCR region account for 14% of company's total sales. "We have to see if the Supreme Court modifies its order. But we have to work simultaneously on our options. Enquiries in Delhi have dropped since the ban came into force. The NCR accounts for 14% of our total sales. We are exploring options to bring in petrol versions of the Innova and the Fortuner," he added. The ban came at a time when Delhi was getting desperate to clean its air. A recent observation made by Delhi High Court even compared living in the capital to “living in a gas chamber”.
