Tata Confirms Tiago EV As Its Most Affordable Electric Offering

• The Tiago EV was first showcased as a concept in 2018.

• Likely to share its mechanicals with the Tigor EV for a claimed range of up to 306km.

The most affordable EVs in India are from Tata’s stable and accessible to the masses. The carmaker is ready to expand its affordable EV range with the Tiago EV hatchback, which could be launched in early 2023.

The electric version of the entry-level Tata is part of the brand’s target to launch 10 EVs by 2025. It had last shown a version of the Tiago EV at the Auto Expo 2018 which was far from impressive compared to Tata’s current lineup of EVs. This 2023 version is likely to get minor design changes for the electric powertrain package over the regular ICE Tiago hatchback.

The Tiago and Tigor have the same underpinnings and we expect the same for the Tiago EV and Tigor EV as well. As a result, this entry-level EV is likely to get the same 26kWh battery pack and an electric motor rated at 75PS and 170Nm. Using Tata’s Ziptron tech, it should be capable of fast charging from 0 to 80 percent in just an hour. In terms of range, the Tiago EV should have a claimed range of up to 306km.

The Tiago EV is expected to have an introductory starting price of around Rs 10 lakh, while the more realistic pricing is likely to be between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 12 lakh. For reference, prices for the Tigor EV start from Rs 12.49 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
