Rolls-Royce and HAL to start a joint venture in India

Rolls-Royce, one of world's leading luxury car maker and India's premier aerospace company, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), have entered into an agreement to creat a joint venture in the country. The joint venture will be a 50:50 partnership and it will produce compressor shroud rings.

The joint venture company will start construction of a new purpose-built production facility by this year and it is expected that the facility will start producing components by year 2012.

Both of the companies have been in partnership since year 1956, when HAL started producing the Orpheus engine, under licence and Since then the partnership has flourished on key programmes like the Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer's Adour Mk871 engine, following on from the production of Adour Mk811 engines for the Jaguar, said HAL Chairman Ashok Nayak.

On the other hand Sir John Rose, Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce said that the Joint Venture marks an exciting new phase of company's long-standing partnership with HAL and underscores its commitment to India and the aerospace industry here.
