Renault's controversial EV, Renault Zoe sued for its name

Renault the French auto maker is all set to launch an all new electric car which is christened as Renault Zeo. Little did the company know that it would be sued for it. The company faced a lawsuit because of the name of the name of its new electric car's name Zoe which is yet to be launched in the auto market. “Zoe” is a popular name in France which means “life”. Parents of a girl child named “Zoe” have filled a lawsuit against the French car maker reasoning that the children with the same name will face annoyance and teasing from others. While, the court has ruled the case in the car maker's favour saying that parents have to prove that how a car name can effect the child.

If looking at Renaults range of vehicles it holds a history of christening its cars on girl names for instance Renault Clio and Renault Megane.

Back home in India, the companies have named its car quite differently. For instance, Maruti Suzuki which introduced its new car Maruti Ritz in India but named it in the overseas market as 'Splash' as this name (Splash) is already registered with a different auto manufacturer in India. Another auto manufactuer, Nissan Motors to establish itself in the mid-sized car segment in India will be coming with its entry level Sunny but will have to name it differently because the name has already been registered under the Bajaj Auto for the company's two wheeler.

Renault has not been able to establish itself as a brand in the Indian auto market. Well to utilize the domestic auto market in its favour Renault is planning to bring a new small car Renault Yeni which is speculated to be priced around Rs 2 lacs.
