The Terrano has borrowed the six-speed AMT (automated-manual transmission) unit from the facelifted Duster, along with other upgrades.

Nissan has finally given a much-required update to its compact SUV, the Terrano. The Japanese automaker has also started accepting pre-bookings for the same with a payment of Rs 25,000, while deliveries will start later this month. The highlight of the 2016 Terrano is the availability of an automatic option – six-speed AMT – which will be available in the price range Rs 13.75 – 13.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The six-speed AMT, which Nissan dubs ‘6-Speed Advanced Auto Drive’, will come exclusively with the top-of-the-line version of the Terrano diesel (XVD Premium). The AMT is coupled to the 110PS version of the 1.5-litre dCi diesel (110PS/ 248Nm), which is also available with a six-speed manual.

The AMT unit in the Terrano is borrowed from its Renault sibling, the Duster 6-speed Easy-R AMT, and, like the latter, it also comes with Hill Assist Control and Electronic Stability Program (ESP). The Terrano AMT returns an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 19.61kmpl, which is identical to the Duster AMT. Rest of the powertrain options have been kept unchanged.

Besides the AMT transmission, the 2016 Terrano comes with a new ‘Sandstone Brown’ body colour along with additional features such as electrically folding ORVMs with integrated turn signals, anti-pinch driver side window, one-touch turn indicators and automatic warning for emergency braking is now standard across all variants.

Additionally, it also offers soft-touch plastics on the dashboard, a new driver armrest and updated instrument cluster with white backlight (similar to the 2016 Duster). Rest of the features will be similar to what Nissan used to offer with the previous model. However, it still misses out on key features that are offered with the updated Duster, such as a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and rear camera support, auto climate control, among others. For instance, the range-topping Duster AMT with similar mechanicals, along with plenty of extra niceties, costs Rs 12.97 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
