Renault Bridger

The upcoming Renault Bridger is a new compact SUV from Renault, whose concept version has been previewed as the Bridger Concept. In Renault’s India lineup, it is expected to be positioned below the Renault Duster and above the Kiger. The Bridger concept will be developed in India and by the looks of it, will bring a rugged, off-road-inspired design in a more compact and affordable package. Designed in India and likely to be manufactured at Renault’s facility on the outskirts of Chennai, the Bridger is slated for an India launch by the end of 2027.

The Bridger concept showcases a boxy and muscular design with strong off-road cues. Up front, it features a gloss-black grille with illuminated ‘RENAULT’ lettering, flanked by large headlamps with distinctive LED DRL signatures. The bumper features a silver skid plate and a wide lower air dam, enhancing its tough appearance. 

In profile, the concept gets flared wheel arches, prominent cladding and large 18-inch alloy wheels that give it a robust stance. A clever design detail borrowed from the Duster is the rear door handles mounted near the C-pillar, giving the SUV a cleaner two-door-like look. Viewing from the sides, you will also notice its sharp lines and cuts that give it a sporty appearance. 

At the rear, the Bridger continues the rugged theme with a flat tailgate design and a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, a feature typically associated with off-roaders. The LED tail lamps have a sleek layout, while the bumper gets a silver finish to further highlight its adventurous styling.

While the interior of the Bridger concept has not been revealed yet, Renault is expected to adopt a minimalistic design with a variety of materials and textures to enhance the cabin’s character. The SUV could feature an all-black interior theme to complement its off-road personality. Renault has confirmed that the Bridger will offer generous interior space, including 200 mm of rear knee room and a 400-litre boot capacity, which should make it one of the more practical offerings in its segment. With focus being towards ruggedness, we expect it to boast an interior that looks and feels durable. 

Features 

Features are yet to be revealed. But we do speculate the production-spec Bridger will likely come with a large dual-screen setup similar to the new Duster. We also expect Renault to offer features such as a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, connected car technology and automatic climate control. 

We expect Renault to offer a strong standard safety package right from the lower variants, and premium safety features with the higher trims. It is expected to come with features such as multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite. 

The ADAS package will likely get features such as auto emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. 

Renault has revealed certain details about the Bridger’s platform details and engine options. It will sit on the French carmaker’s RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform) architecture that also underpins the Renault Duster. Furthermore, the carmaker has also announced that the Bridger will be offered with a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. 

Following that - an all-electric version, likely to be called the Renault Bridger EV, will be introduced. It will also be Renault’s first all-electric vehicle for the Indian market. Delve into more details about this announcement and the carmaker’s future plans in this story. 

There is no doubt that the Bridger’s boxy styling will be hugely appealing, especially considering that it gives mini Duster vibes. We hope that Renault retains most of the design elements in the production-spec model. 

Once launched, the Renault Bridger is expected to be priced between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom), with a possible positioning between the Kiger and the Duster in Renault’s portfolio. In the Indian market, it will compete with lifestyle-oriented SUVs such as the Maruti Jimny, the rear-wheel-drive variants of the Mahindra Thar and the upcoming Mahindra Vision S. It will also be an alternative to SUVs like the Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Hyundai Venue.
